LOS ANGELES NEUROFEEDBACK CENTER
LANC & AUTISM TREATMENT
When seeking Autism treatment, we have to consider the potential source. Autism is thought to arise from neural connectivity issues in the brain. Improving neural connectivity is the cornerstone of LANC’s Direct Neurofeedback (DNFB). LANC’s DNFB can both correct neural pathways in deficient areas and allow the brain to reduce and rearrange neural pathways with excessively high connectivity.
Research has shown that in people with Autism, there are areas of deficient connectivity and other areas with excessively high connectivity. As Science Daily puts it: “…some areas of the brain are chatting excessively with themselves, while failing to communicate with other relevant regions.” Since many of the symptoms of Autism are like the symptoms of ADHD, Anxiety, and Depression, LANC’s DNFB can similarly effect these Autism symptoms.

HOW LANC PROVIDES AUTISM HELP
Research has shown that DNFB can have a profound impact on reducing the symptoms of Autism, reducing the occurrence of specific detrimental Autism behaviors, and reducing the duration of these behaviors and Autism regression. DNFB effects on persons with Autism are long-lasting. One study “indicates maintenance of improvement of executive functions and social behavior after 12 months in comparison with the immediate outcomes.”
Improvement can be seen in people all across the Autism spectrum disorder, from those whose Autism is high functioning or those who have Asperger’s Syndrome to individuals who are profoundly affected with multiple symptoms and Autism disability. One of the greatest benefits of LANC’s DNFB compared to other Autism treatment, is that LANC’s sessions require almost no involvement on the part of the client.
LANC’s Direct Neurofeedback addresses Autism in kids and adults with Autism symptoms.
"The experience I had with the Los Angeles Neurofeedback Center exceeded my expectations. Very destructive Autism symptoms were reduced. I appreciated the well-rounded ability of the NeuroCoach."

WHAT TO EXPECT IN A DNFB SESSION FOR AUTISM
LANC sessions are done in a quiet, relaxing environment to help minimize anxiety and triggered responses. For clients who have mobility issues, LANC can schedule in-home sessions. Sessions are typically 30 minutes, but can be shorter if necessary, for the client’s comfort. In the first appointment, your NeuroCoach discusses your current Autism symptoms and resources, addresses your concerns, and performs a DNFB session.
This initial intake session costs only $89 at our West LA office and $149 at our South Bay office, and is the first step towards Autism help.
While most LANC clients report a degree of immediate improvement in the area of concern, usually during or immediately after a session, improvements in clients with Autism may not be observable until the client is placed in situations where their Autism symptoms arise. It may be necessary to rely on the observations of the client’s caregiver to assess the DNFB effects. Autism clients may require more frequent, ongoing tune-ups after completion of the typical protocol.
If your loved one has an Autism diagnosis, book your first session at a special rate! The initial intake session costs only $89 at our West LA and South Bay offices, and is the first step towards Autism help.

TRADITIONAL AUTISM TREATMENT OPTIONS
There is no “cure” yet for Autism Spectrum Disorder. The only commonly accepted options for Autism range from Behavioral Management and Cognitive Behavioral therapy to Nutritional and Animal-Assisted therapy. The effects of these types of Autism therapy can vary widely between individuals. It may take a long time to discover the specific Autism therapy that works best for the unique individual’s Autism behaviors.
Medication is not a common option of treatment for Autism Spectrum Disorder as there is only one medication FDA approved for treating the symptoms of Autism. However, since some Autism characteristics are similar to ADHD, Anxiety, and Depression, medications prescribed for those disorders are sometimes prescribed for persons with Autism. Those medications come with their own disadvantages and side effects – see our pages on ADHD, Anxiety, and Depression for more information.
BRIEF AUTISM OVERVIEW
While some risk factors have been identified, the true cause of Autism remains unknown. Autism is considered a lifelong disorder, but there are means to render the symptoms less pronounced and, for symptoms which have specific “triggers,” less likely to arise. LANC’s Direct Neurofeedback is one of these means.

What to Expect During Autism Neurofeedback Treatment
\nEvery treatment plan begins with a thorough qEEG brain map, a painless and non-invasive assessment that records electrical activity across your child's entire brain. For children on the autism spectrum, this map typically reveals patterns such as excessive slow-wave activity, reduced connectivity between brain regions, and atypical coherence patterns. These findings guide the creation of a highly personalized neurofeedback protocol.
\nSessions are designed to be comfortable and engaging for children. Your child will sit in a comfortable chair and watch a movie, play a simple game, or view animations that respond to their brainwave patterns. When the brain produces the targeted healthy patterns, the screen display responds positively. Sessions typically last 30 to 45 minutes, and most families schedule two to three sessions per week for optimal results.
\nWe understand that children on the spectrum may have sensory sensitivities, so our clinicians take extra care with sensor placement and the clinical environment. Parents are welcome to stay in the room during sessions. Our Brentwood office provides a calm, predictable setting designed to minimize sensory overload. Progress is tracked through regular qEEG comparisons and parent feedback, ensuring the protocol is continuously refined to meet your child's evolving needs.
Research Supporting Neurofeedback for Autism Spectrum Disorder
Research into neurofeedback as a supportive therapy for autism spectrum disorder has shown promising results, particularly in areas of attention, sensory processing, and emotional regulation. A systematic review published in Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders found that neurofeedback produced significant improvements in attention, social interaction, and communication skills in individuals on the autism spectrum, with minimal side effects.
Brain imaging studies have identified several patterns of atypical brain connectivity in autism, including over-connectivity in some regions and under-connectivity in others. These patterns contribute to many of the challenges associated with autism, including sensory sensitivity, difficulty with social communication, and problems with executive function. Neurofeedback addresses these patterns by training the brain toward more typical connectivity, potentially improving function across multiple domains simultaneously.
While neurofeedback is not a cure for autism, research consistently demonstrates that it can reduce the severity of associated symptoms and improve quality of life. A study published in Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback found that autistic children who received neurofeedback showed improvements in social awareness, social communication, and reduced repetitive behaviors, with gains maintained at six-month follow-up.
Autism Neurofeedback Support at Los Angeles Neurofeedback Center
Located in Brentwood, West Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Neurofeedback Center provides neurofeedback therapy for children, teenagers, and adults on the autism spectrum. Our office serves families from across the greater Los Angeles area who are seeking drug-free, non-invasive support for autism-related challenges including sensory processing difficulties, attention problems, emotional dysregulation, and social communication challenges.
Our CLARITY Direct Neurofeedback method is especially appropriate for individuals on the autism spectrum because it requires no active participation, sustained attention, or tolerance of uncomfortable sensory experiences. The treatment is gentle, brief, and well-tolerated even by young children and individuals with significant sensory sensitivities. Many families in our Los Angeles practice report improvements in their child's ability to manage transitions, regulate emotions, and engage socially after beginning neurofeedback.
Frequently Asked Questions About Neurofeedback for Autism
At what age can a child start neurofeedback? We work with children as young as four or five years old. The sessions are designed to be engaging and comfortable for young children, often incorporating games or videos that respond to their brainwave activity. Many children actually enjoy the process and look forward to their sessions.
Is neurofeedback a cure for autism? Neurofeedback does not claim to cure autism spectrum disorder. What it does is help regulate the underlying brain patterns that contribute to many of the challenges associated with ASD, such as sensory overload, difficulty with emotional regulation, sleep problems, and anxiety. By training the brain toward more balanced patterns, many individuals on the spectrum experience meaningful improvements in daily functioning and quality of life.
Can neurofeedback be combined with other therapies? Yes, neurofeedback works well alongside speech therapy, occupational therapy, ABA, and other interventions. Many families find that neurofeedback helps their child become more receptive to other therapies by first reducing the sensory overwhelm and anxiety that can interfere with learning and engagement.
What improvements do parents typically notice? Parents commonly report improvements in sleep quality (often one of the first changes), reduced meltdowns and emotional reactivity, better eye contact and social engagement, improved ability to handle transitions and changes in routine, and increased verbal communication. The specific improvements vary based on the individual's unique brain patterns and challenges, which is why we begin with a thorough qEEG assessment.
How many sessions are typically needed? Most families see initial improvements within 10 to 15 sessions, with a full course of treatment typically ranging from 30 to 60 sessions depending on the individual's needs and goals. Sessions are usually scheduled two to three times per week, and each session lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
